Top 3 Excuses Students Give for Skipping the FREE One-Day Internship™

When we launched the One-Day Internship™, we knew it was something special. A unique way for students to step into a real job scenario, meet employers face-to-face, and secure opportunities that usually take months of applications and cost thousands of dollars to access.

And the results prove it: at our last event, 148 students registered within 2–3 days of publishing. The room was buzzing with energy, competition, and collaboration. Students walked away saying things like:

“This was the most practical experience I’ve had so far.”

“I learned more about myself in one day than in weeks of lectures.”

Yet here’s what puzzles me: if the offer is this good, why don’t thousands attend instead of hundreds?

As a CEO and scientist, I can’t ignore that question. I care about finding the root cause. So instead of just reading the kind comments from participants, I went deeper. I interviewed the ones who saw the event but chose not to attend.

Just like in my classes — where students might give me a 9/10 but I’ll always ask, “How can I make it 10/10?” — I wanted to hear the honest answers.

Here’s the outcome of that research: the top 3 excuses students give for skipping the One-Day Internship™, and the truth behind them.

Excuse #1: “It’s too early for me to attend.”

Many students think they should wait until final year to do anything resembling an internship.

The Truth: The best time to prepare for your career is before you need the job. By attending early, you’ll gain confidence, clarity, and skills that put you ahead of the competition. Imagine walking into an interview saying:

“I’ve already done hands-on IT helpdesk work through a Tutor10x One-Day Internship™.”

That’s not early — that’s smart.

 Excuse #2: “I’m not qualified.”

Some students believe these events are only for experts, or those already polished and ready.

The Truth: The One-Day Internship™ is built for learners. We design the day so you can practice, make mistakes, and grow in a safe, supportive environment. You don’t come in ready — you leave ready.

Excuse #3: “I’m nervous I won’t do well.”

This is the most human response I heard. Fear of freezing. Fear of failing. Fear of standing out for the wrong reasons.

The Truth: That’s exactly why you should attend. One day of pressure in a supportive environment is the fastest way to discover what you’re capable of. And no matter how you perform, you’ll leave with:

  • A Work Experience Certificate recognised by employers
  • Real achievements to discuss in interviews
  • A clearer sense of your strengths and areas to grow

My Conclusion as a CEO and Scientist

The main barrier isn’t money (it’s free) or time (it’s one afternoon). It’s mindset.

Fear. Doubt. Waiting for the “perfect” time.

But the students who push past those excuses are the ones who land real opportunities — sometimes on the spot. That’s why I believe every student should experience this. If I were in your shoes, it would be a dream to attend something this transparent: no endless job applications, no guessing games — just direct contact with employers and peers in an open, fair space.

Don’t Miss Out Next Time
